Many applied for personalized plates, few paid
75% declined after their application for personalized plates was approved.
The Norwegian Public Roads Administration reports they have processed 16,912 applications for personalized license plates so far. The vast majority have been approved. Only 262 applications were rejected because the plate was deemed offensive.
Of the remaining applications, only 4,188 chose to pay and receive their personalized plate. The others either withdrew their application or didn’t pay the invoice. A personalized license plate costs NOK 9,000, giving you the right to use it for 10 years.
Almost all applications came in during the first two weeks after the new system was introduced. In recent months, far fewer applications have been submitted – 743 in December and only 642 in November.
