About the official theory test
How many errors are allowed on the theory test?
It depends on the licence class. For car (class B), tractor, snowmobile, lorry (C) and bus (D) you need at least 38 out of 45 correct — a maximum of 7 errors. For motorcycle (class A) there are 40 questions and at least 34 must be correct (max 6 errors). For C1 (light lorry), CE, D1 (minibus) and AM146 (moped) there are 30 questions and at least 25 must be correct (max 5 errors). Source: Statens Vegvesen.
The boating test (Båtførerprøven), ADR, YSK, VHF (SRC) and the taxi test have their own rules — see the description of the specific test you'll be taking.
How many questions are on the theory test?
Most licence classes (B, T, S, C, D) have 45 questions. Motorcycle (class A) has 40. C1, CE, D1 and AM146 (moped) have 30. The boating test has 50. Source: Statens Vegvesen.
How much time do you get on the theory test?
You have 90 minutes on class B, A and snowmobile, 75 minutes on C1 and D1 (minibus), 60 minutes on moped (AM146), and 120 minutes on lorry (C) and bus (D). You can usually finish faster — and you can review your answers before submitting. Source: Statens Vegvesen.
What happens if I fail?
You'll have to wait before you can take the test again. For most classes the waiting period is two weeks. For C, CE, D and DE it's one week. Source: Statens Vegvesen.
You'll need to book a new appointment at a traffic station and pay the fee again. Use the waiting time to practise the areas where you answered incorrectly — on Prøve.no your weak areas are surfaced so you can target your practice.
About Prøve.no
How much does Prøve.no cost?
We sell time-limited access to our practice tests, with packages ranging from a few days to several months. Prices depend on how long you want access and which licence classes you're practising for — you'll see the current price when you click "Buy access" on the test you want to take. All payments go through secure providers: Vipps, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Apple Pay or Google Pay. You can also buy a gift card or redeem an access code from your driving school. We always offer a free 10-question demo without registration so you can try the service before buying.
Is Prøve.no available as an app?
Yes. Prøve.no is available as a dedicated app for both iPhone/iPad and Android. The app gives you access to the same practice tests as the website, with a mobile-optimised interface. You can listen to questions read aloud, turn off the answer key once you feel confident, and track your results over time. The app syncs with your account, so you can start a session on mobile and continue on PC later. Search for "prøve.no" in the App Store or Google Play. The app itself is free to download; access to the practice tests is purchased the same way as on the website.
Which languages is Prøve.no available in?
All our practice tests are translated into English, Ukrainian, Polish and Arabic in addition to Norwegian. You can switch language at any time using the language picker at the bottom of the page, and the setting is remembered between visits. Translations cover questions, answer options and explanations, so you can prepare for the Norwegian theory test in a language you're comfortable with. The official theory test at Statens Vegvesen is offered in several languages — check with your local traffic station for the up-to-date list. We recommend practising in the language you intend to take the real exam in, so you recognise the terminology for traffic rules and road signs.

Our tests
Can I take the driving test after passing on prove.no?
No, absolutely not. Our questions are only for training purposes and we have nothing to do with taking the official test.
You can only take the actual exam at Statens Vegvesen.
Why do you always show the key after I answer a question?
Because we want you to learn as much as possible! When you see the right answer after each question it helps you learn which alternative was right.
You can choose to turn off the explanation when answering a question correctly. It is easiest from your profile (the link only works whilst you are logged in).
How similar are your questions to the official questions at the exam?
Hopefully very much alike, but it's hard for us to check. None of us would like to loose our license so that we can take the real test again, but a lot of our users tell us that ours are similar to the exam questions.
The composition of questions in the test from Statens Vegvesen varies, as they have a lot of questions to choose from each time. Just like our questions they are generated from a large database of questions, and they are randomly selected.
What we can measure is the outcome: 81% of our students pass on their first attempt (Prøve.no internal data), compared to a national average of just 53% (source: Statens Vegvesen). That's a strong indication that what you practise with us is close to what you'll actually face at the traffic station.
Are you affiliated with Statens Vegvesen?
No, absolutely not. Please contact Statens Vegvesen directly.
Who makes the questions for prøve.no?
Questions on Prøve.no are written by our own content team in collaboration with experienced Norwegian driving instructors. We add new questions continuously as traffic rules change — for example when fines were increased in 2026 and when new EU-inspection rules take effect. Every question is then reviewed by active driving instructors before publication, so both legal references and explanations are correct. We base our material on the same sources Statens Vegvesen uses: vegtrafikkloven, trafikkreglene, skiltforskriften and the Vegvesen handbooks (including N300 and V851–V856). If you still find an error, use the feedback link below the question — the reference number is tracked automatically, and we usually respond the same business day.
How are the questions for a test selected?
On prøve.no all questions are randomly put together, with some limitations. Most tests have several categories, and a given number of questions are picked randomly from each category.
If you have taken the test before the system will try to pick questions that you have not answered before as long as possible.
When you answer a question incorrectly you might see the question again before you have seen all the questions.
The alternatives of a given question comes in random order.
How often do you update prøve.no?
We update and add questions on a regular basis. Sometimes we only add a few, but when we add many at the same time, we will post about it on our Facebook page.
I think I've found an error. What do I do?
Use the link below the answer to send us a message directly. This automatically includes the reference number so we know exactly which question you mean. We appreciate the feedback and usually respond the same business day.
