Would you have cheated on the theory test?
The Public Roads Administration reports that more people are being caught cheating on the theory test. At the same time, cheating methods are becoming more sophisticated.
At Bergen traffic station, they are catching more and more people trying to cheat their way through the theory test. They are unsure whether this is because more people are cheating, or because they have become better at catching cheaters.
On the practical driving test for cars, about a quarter of students fail. Before they get that far, they must have passed the theory test. Here, almost half of students fail. Some therefore choose to try to cheat their way through this test.
The Public Roads Administration tells NRK that ingenuity is high. People use cameras in everything from pens to watches to record theory tests and sell the recordings to others. They have caught people with earpieces and phones hidden in bras. Some also have twins or people with fake IDs take the test for them.
To combat cheating, the Public Roads Administration has focused on getting better at detecting fake identities. They have also acquired equipment that alerts them if someone is using mobile phones in the test room.
The test is there to verify that those who are allowed to take the practical test have the necessary theoretical knowledge to become safe drivers who know how to cooperate with other road users.
If you can’t pass the test, perhaps you should acquire more knowledge instead of cheating your way through? Hopefully, the least suitable drivers will be weeded out during the practical test anyway.
