Frequently asked questions
How many errors can you have on the ADR basic course exam?
You can have a maximum of 5 errors out of 25 questions on the ADR basic course exam (G-ADR). You need at least 20 of 25 correct to pass. The pass threshold is the same at DSB.
How long does the ADR basic course exam take?
You have 135 minutes for the ADR basic course exam at DSB. The renewal exam gives you 75 minutes for 15 questions. Use the time — there is no bonus for finishing early.
What is the ADR competence certificate and how long is it valid?
The ADR competence certificate is the official driver certificate required to transport dangerous goods above the limited quantity threshold in Norway and Europe. It is issued by DSB and is valid for 5 years from the date of issue. Before it expires you must pass the renewal exam (15 questions, max 3 errors).
How much does the ADR exam cost?
Statens vegvesen charges a fee for the ADR test – see vegvesen.no for the current price. In addition there is the course fee at an approved course provider, which varies between providers.
Can I take the tank or class 1 exam without the basic course first?
No. The basic course (G-ADR) is the mandatory foundation for every specialization (T-ADR tank, 1-ADR explosives, 7-ADR radioactive). Most candidates take the basic course and a specialization on the same exam day as a combined exam — G-TADR, G-1ADR or G-7ADR. The specializations are 15 questions with max 3 errors each.
