The taxi theory course: the whole curriculum for the taxi driver theory test

The taxi driver theory test is one of the hardest theory tests at the Norwegian Public Roads Administration. In 2025, 45 % passed, and so far in 2026 the figure is 39 %. The test is not about driving, but about the rules around carrying passengers: the taxi driver licence (kjøreseddel), the taxi operating licence, the taximeter, fares and service.

What you will learn

The taxi theory course is made by teorikurs.no and covers the whole topic list for the taxi driver theory test:

• The rules explained simply – taxi driver licence (kjøreseddel), taxi operating licence, taximeter and fares
• Service, communication and passengers with special needs
• Securing passengers and safe driving

The course is text-based, and you take it at your own pace.

The course is in English to help you learn, but the taxi driver theory test is taken in Norwegian. The course shows you the Norwegian terms you will meet at the test.

Taxi driver theory test

The taxi driver theory test has 35 questions on customer service, regulations, passenger safety, fare calculation and communication. You need at least 85% correct to pass. The official exam is taken in Norwegian without an interpreter — but if you work in the tourism industry and can document it, you may take it in English. Practise in English with a large pool of questions covering everything you need to know to obtain your taxi driver licence (kjøreseddel).
