Checking if Norwegian licenses were bought illegally
The Roads Directorate will check all licenses issued before September 1, 2014
The Norwegian Public Roads Directorate will now review all Norwegian driving licenses issued before September 1, 2014, to check if they may have been bought illegally. Before this date, it was possible for traffic station employees to issue licenses manually, without a registered passed theory test and driving test for the person in question.
This spring, it was discovered that an employee at Arendal traffic station had exploited this system weakness, issuing heavy vehicle licenses to a person who had not passed any tests.
It has also emerged that it was possible to do several other things completely manually and without oversight – for example, printing test plates and registering fake sales reports. This system weakness has now reportedly been fixed.
