Now you can get personalized license plates

Many people have been waiting for this – at least 3,658 people, at the time of writing, based on followers of the Facebook group "Personalized License Plates to Norway."

From June 15 at 11:00, the service opens that lets you find available plate numbers and apply for them. If your application is approved, it costs NOK 9,000 for the plate number, which becomes yours for 10 years. Three months before the plate number expires, you can apply to renew it.

Only imagination and rules set the limits

You can choose almost anything as a plate number as long as it has two to seven characters, is not offensive, doesn’t cause inconvenience, and doesn’t infringe on trademark rights.

Not an investment

The plate number is personal and tied to the car. You are not allowed to resell it, so there’s no point in buying up the best numbers to sell later. The plate doesn’t stay with the car if you sell it, but you can use it on another car yourself.
