Electric cars must pay on more ferries

In Hordaland County's proposed 2016 budget, they want electric cars to no longer travel free on ferries. The reason is the massive increase in the number of electric cars on ferries.

Earlier this year, the county had to compensate one of the ferry operators for their loss of income, since electric cars currently travel free. The proportion of electric cars on ferries will continue to increase, and more claims are expected in the future.

The Hordaland County Manager therefore proposes that electric cars pay half price on ferries from the new year. This will only apply to ferries on county roads. Ferries on national roads are the state's responsibility, and these will remain free for electric cars.

County municipalities themselves choose whether to give electric cars benefits on their ferry routes, and Sør-Trøndelag has already chosen to charge for electric cars.
