People seem to like paying speeding fines

That must be the conclusion after traffic police announced a major inspection in advance yesterday.

People seem to like paying speeding fines

The traffic police went to the media yesterday and announced they would have a major inspection nationwide. All their personnel were out on the roads conducting 24-hour checks at 143 locations. The major inspection received wide coverage in national media. Among others, NRK wrote that "Traffic police blanket the roads today." However, it doesn't seem to have had much effect on drivers.

A total of 176 people were caught speeding, 4 of whom had their licenses confiscated, according to Terje Oksnes of the traffic police speaking to NRK. This number, however, only applies to the 18 checkpoints held in his district, Western Norway. One can therefore assume that quite a few drivers have had to park their cars during this announced major inspection.

On the E39 at Haukås in Sveio municipality, 33 people were caught in just 2.5 hours. According to the traffic police, this is about the same as when they don't announce an inspection. The traffic police say they are disappointed that so many broke the speed limit despite the warning. We imagine there are also some disappointed and fined drivers out there who now realize they could easily have saved several thousand kroner.
